How to Tell If Your Dryer Thermal Fuse Is Blown
If your dryer suddenly stops heating or won’t run at all, one of the most common causes is a blown thermal fuse.
Signs Your Thermal Fuse Might Be Bad:
- Dryer won’t start at all
- Dryer runs but produces no heat
- Dryer shuts off too quickly
The thermal fuse is a safety device designed to shut the dryer down if it overheats. Once it blows, it cannot be reset — it must be replaced.
Quick Test:
Using a multimeter:
- Disconnect power from the dryer
- Remove the fuse
- Check for continuity
- No continuity = bad fuse
Important Tip:
If the fuse blew, there’s usually a reason:
- clogged vent
- restricted airflow
- lint buildup
Replacing the fuse without fixing the cause will likely lead to it blowing again.
