Why Your Dryer Is Running But Not Heating
A dryer that runs but doesn’t heat is one of the most common appliance problems.
Here are the most likely causes:
1. Heating Element
The heating element is what actually produces heat.
If it’s broken, your dryer will run — but stay cold.
2. Thermal Fuse
If the dryer overheated, the fuse may have blown as a safety measure.
3. Thermostat
A faulty thermostat may prevent the heating cycle from turning on.
4. Power Issue (Important)
Electric dryers require 220 volts.
Sometimes:
- one breaker trips
- dryer still runs, but no heat
What You Can Check First:
- Reset breakers
- Inspect vent for clogs
- Look for visible damage on the element
